Why Kerry Visited Putin After 70th V-Day?

It’s forgivable for Angela Merkel to skip the Russian 70th Victory Day; after all, his father Adolf was in the wrong side of the Second World War. But for the US and UK which benefited largely from Russia’s sacrifice costing 27  million lives, their absence is highly deplorable.
Then, in a whirlwind fashion, Secretary of State John Kerry flew to Russia to “deliver a very tough and direct message to Putin” [read here; funny how UK free press twists the story] about how the Ukrainian Crisis is to be resolved. With the same fashion, Victoria Nuland also visited Russia for just about the same subject.
They’re both not admitting the real purpose of their visits but it seemed these officials are under immense pressure from their real boss due to the way the Russians displayed their military might with the symbolic participation of two of the world’s humongous armies, i.e. China and India.
Poroshenko began reading a different script from then on, but the provocative shelling of Donetsk residents continue.

Is Washington Coming To Its Senses?

There is much speculation about US Secretary of State John Kerry’s rush visit to Russia in the wake of Russia’s successful Victory Day celebration on May 9. On May 11, Kerry, who was snubbing Russia on the 9th, was on his way to Russia, and Putin consented to see him on May 12.
As time passes we will find out why Kerry was snubbing Putin on May 9 and 3 days later was criticizing Washington’s puppet regime in Ukraine. For what is known at this time, a possible explanation is that Washington is coming to its senses.
If you watched the 1 hour 20 minute video of the Victory Day Parade, you are aware that the celebration sent a powerful message. Russia is a first class military power, and Russia is backed by China and India, whose soldiers marched with Russia’s in the parade.
So, while the increasingly irrelevant West, absorbed in its own self-importance, snubbed
the celebration of the victory that the Red Army gave them over Hitler, the three largest countries in the world were present united. Russia has the largest land mass, and China and India, also large land masses, have the world’s largest populations.
The celebration in Moscow made it clear that Washington has failed miserably to isolate Russia. What Washington has done is to make the BRICS more unified.
With the President of China sitting at the right hand of Putin, the celebration also made it completely clear even to the morons in the Obama regime that Washington is no longer the Uni-power.
Consider now the impact on Washington’s vassal states in Europe, the crux of the American Empire. Europeans are aware that two of the most powerful military states in history did not survive their invasions of Russia. Napoleon lost the Grande Army in Russia, and Hitler lost the Wehrmacht in Russia. It has dawned on Europeans that they are being shoved into conflict with Russia in the interest of Washington’s claim to be the World Hegemon. Europeans are accustomed to obey Washington, but when it came to being forced into conflict with Russia, Europeans began to express dissent. Signs of an independent European foreign policy appeared with Merkel and Hollande’s meeting with Putin to resolve the Ukrainian crisis orchestrated by Washington.
Faced with the failure of its policy of isolating Russia and the emergence of an independent foreign policy in Europe, Washington sent Kerry as a supplicant to Putin to work out a way to de-escalate the Ukrainian crisis. Putin being a peacemaker will permit Washington to save face. But this will not please the neoconsevatives or the military/security complex. The former are invested heavily in claims of Amerika Uber Alles, and the latter are lusting for the abundant revenues from a new cold, or hot, war.
Obama, Kerry, and Cameron have to become magicians. They have to transition from demonizing Putin to working with him.
Having failed with force against Russia, the West is now employing seduction. If Western peoples hope to escape from the Police State that Washington has imposed on the entire Western World, we must pray that Putin does not fall for the seduction.
There is no world leadership in the West. There is only selfishness and hubris. Western “leadership” is exploitative. The West loots the non-West and is now turning on itself with its looting of Ireland and Greece, with Italy, Spain, and Portugal the next targets for looting. The American public itself has been looted of its jobs, career aspirations, and civil liberties.
The Western model of “democratic capitalism” turns out to be neither democratic nor capitalist, but a form of fascism ruled by an oligarchy. The United States is where regime change is most badly needed.

Nuland to Visit Moscow for Ukraine Talks

02:10 17.05.2015(updated 02:17 17.05.2015)
US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland confirmed Tuesday that if the Minsk agreements are fully implemented, the United States could lift a number of sanctions against Russia.
Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland will visit Moscow on May 17 and 18 to discuss the implementation of the Minsk peace agreements on Ukraine, the US State Department said in a statement Sunday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — During her visit, Nuland will meet with senior Russian government officials and civil society representatives. In addition to the Ukraine peace process, she is set to discuss bilateral US-Russian issues.
Nuland’s Moscow visit follows her May 14-16 trip to Ukraine’s capital Kiev, and State Secretary John Kerry’s recent visit to the Russian resort city of Sochi.
Relations between Russia and the United States have soured over the last year amid the situation in Ukraine. Washington has accused Moscow of meddling in the armed conflict in Ukraine’s southeast, a claim repeatedly denied by the Russian side.
After numerous breaches of a previous ceasefire agreement, signed in September 2014 in Minsk, Ukraine’s warring sides signed a new truce deal in mid-February.
The new agreement was outlined during lengthy talks between the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany, who met in the Belarusian capital in a bid to find a solution to the Ukraine crisis.

Kerry: Poroshenko Should ‘Think Twice’ Before Using Force in Donbass
KIEV (Sputnik) — The United States is ready to expand its role in enforcing the Minsk agreements on Ukraine with the European Union and members of the Normandy Quartet, US Assistant State Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said Saturday.
Nuland spoke at a briefing following talks with Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov during her three-day visit to Kiev, where the sides addressed the ongoing conflict in the country’s southeast.
“The United States deepens our engagement in the Minsk implementation process in lockstep with our European allies and partners, with the EU and particularly with the Normandy powers,” Nuland stressed.
The diplomat underscored the security, political and humanitarian aspects of the 13-point agreement worked out by the leaders of Normandy Quartet, comprising of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine, in February. Specifically, Nuland said Washington insists on an all-out ceasefire along the line of contact in Donbas.
NATO Chief on Ukraine: Actions Speak Louder Than Words
“In Sochi, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin told Secretary Kerry that he is fully committed to Minsk implementation. It’s now important that all sides walk the walk, not just talk the talk,” Nuland said, referring to Kerry’s first visit to Russia since 2013 earlier this week.
During the course of her trip to Ukraine, Nuland said the sides discussed the use of a humanitarian working group to assist local residents, ensuring the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe access along the Ukrainian-Russian border, as well as preparing for free and fair Ukrainian elections.
To date, Washington has been conspicuously absent from the Ukrainian crisis settlement talks. The conflicting sides in the year-long standoff disagree over its participation in the Normandy format talks, with Kiev backing and the Donbass independence supporters opposing the idea.

Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland in Kiev
Dialogue on Ukraine with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland was open-minded and fruitful, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Nuland visited Moscow on May 17-18 to discuss the implementation of the Minsk peace agreements on Ukraine, as well as US-Russian bilateral relations.
“We met to exchange opinions on obstacles in the implementation of the Minsk agreements…I believe this exchange was fruitful, open-minded and rather direct.”

“We discussed in detail the issues related to the work of the Contact Group and four subgroups, which have been set up to advance all aspects of the Ukrainian reconciliation,” Karasin said.
The Russian diplomat expressed hope that the sides would continue this dialogue “whenever it’s necessary.”

Washington Throws in the Towel on Ukraine, Shifts to ‘Plan B’

Obama has thrown in the sponge for Ukraine, Eric Zuesse underscored, adding that Washington is now “on-board with the ‘Plan B’ for Ukraine,” which means implementing the provisions of the Minsk II accord.
International media have failed to highlight the ultimate failure of Washington’s policy in Ukraine, investigative historian Eric Zuesse emphasized, referring to remarks by US Secretary of State John Kerry in response to Petro Poroshenko’s oath to retake Crimea and the Donetsk Airport.
“I have not had a chance – I have not read the speech. I haven’t seen any context. I have simply heard about it in the course of today [which would be shocking if true]. But if indeed President Poroshenko is advocating an engagement in a forceful effort at this time, we would strongly urge him to think twice not to engage in that kind of activity, that that would put Minsk in serious jeopardy. And we would be very, very concerned about what the consequences of that kind of action at this time may be,” John Kerry said during a press conference in Sochi, as cited by the historian.
Kerry: Poroshenko Should ‘Think Twice’ Before Using Force in Donbass
Eric Zuesse stressed that the remark has clearly demonstrated that the Obama administration has thrown in the towel on Washington’s original plan for Ukraine, which was purportedly aimed at an all-out military invasion of the eastern regions.
Victoria Nuland, who was responsible for the plan since the very beginning, is now sidelined, the expert underscored.
According to Eric Zuesse, Obama has sent a clear message through Kerry to Ukrainian President Poroshenko, and indirectly to Nuland’s protégé Prime Minister Yatsenyuk as well as to outright Nazi Dmytro Yarosh, stating:  “we’ll back you only as long as you accept that you have failed our military expectations and that we will be stricter with you in the future regarding how you spend our military money.”
No More Strong Arm Tactics: US Wants to Mend Relations With Russia
So far, the Obama administration has shifted the goalposts and jumped at the opportunity to join the Normandy talks on Ukraine, the expert noted.
“Merkel and Hollande thus won. Putin had decidedly won. Obama and the Nazis he had empowered in Ukraine have now, clearly, been defeated,” Eric Zuesse stressed.
“But the mess that Obama’s people have created in Ukraine by their coup and subsequent ethnic-cleansing to eliminate the residents of Donbass, will take decades, if ever, to repair,” the expert added bitterly.

‘Not by Force Alone’: Poroshenko Mulls New Options for Donbass Settlement

09:55 20.05.2015(updated 11:05 20.05.2015)
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko
In a media interview on Tuesday Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said there was no chance the country’s eastern Donbass region could be taken away from the pro-independence militia by military force.
“I don’t think our territory can be liberated by military means alone,” Poroshenko told the BBC, noting that diplomacy was the only answer and that he had no option but to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russia denies Western accusations that it has sent regular troops and armor to help the pro-independence militia in eastern Ukraine.
President Poroshenko also said that, apart from efforts to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine, fighting corruption was another major priority for his administration.
Ukraine, which last year signed an association agreement with the EU, wants to become a full-fledged member of the European Union.
President Poroshenko hopes that implementation of his program of reforms will open the door for a formal application already in 2020.
However, Kiev still awaits a clear signal from Brussels  that such an application is actually welcome.
“I have a dream of someday becoming a member of the European parliament and of Ukraine joining the European Union, and I will be doing my best to make this happen,” Poroshenko said when asked about the goals he planned to achieve by the end of his presidential term.
Petro Poroshenko was elected president in 2014 for a period of five years.
According to UN figures, more than 6,000 people have been killed in eastern Ukraine since April 2014 when Kiev launched its so-called “anti-terrorist operation” against the local independence supporters in Donbass.
