Police Raid on Kingdom of Jesus Christ Compound Sparks Controversy

In a dramatic turn of events, thousands of police officers raided the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City over the weekend in an attempt to arrest Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. The operation, which involved over 2,000 heavily armed police personnel, has ignited a firestorm of controversy and drawn condemnation from high-profile political figures.

The Raid and Its Aftermath

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, police forces led by Police Regional Office 11 chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III descended upon the 30-hectare KOJC compound in Davao City. Their mission was to serve arrest warrants for Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and several of his associates on charges including child abuse, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse of minors.

The compound, which houses the KOJC Cathedral, Jose Maria College, Apollo Air Hangar, Sonshine Media Network Inc. office and studio, as well as dormitories for hundreds of KOJC workers, became the center of a tense standoff. Despite the massive police presence, Quiboloy and his co-accused – Ingrid Canada, Inting Canada, and Jacklyn Roy – managed to evade capture.

The operation quickly turned contentious, with KOJC members accusing the police of using excessive force. Tragically, a 51-year-old KOJC member manning a watchtower died of a heart attack during the raid, while 18 others reported injuries. The police, however, maintain that the death was not directly related to their actions.

As the search continued into Sunday, police employed advanced technology, including ground-penetrating radar capable of detecting heartbeats and movement, in their efforts to locate Quiboloy. Torre expressed confidence that it was “just a matter of time” before they found the fugitive pastor, who is believed to be hiding in a secret room within the compound.

Political Fallout

The raid has sparked a political firestorm, with Vice President Sara Duterte issuing a scathing statement condemning the police action. Duterte, who has ties to Quiboloy through her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, called the raid a “gross abuse of police power” and a “betrayal of public trust.”

In a surprising move, Duterte also asked for forgiveness from KOJC members for encouraging them to vote for President Marcos in the 2022 elections. “You deserve better. Filipinos deserve better,” she stated, hinting at a deepening rift within the political landscape.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte also weighed in, criticizing the operation as political harassment and persecution. He called on “decent and patriotic” government members to resist being used for “abusive and violent” enforcement of what he termed “illegal orders.”

Legal Challenges and Controversies

The legality and scope of the police operation have been called into question by KOJC’s legal counsel, Israelito Torreon. He argued that the arrest warrant did not give police the right to turn the private property into a “garrison” or conduct extensive searches. Torreon has demanded that the police leave the compound, insisting that their mission to serve the arrest warrants is complete.

The PNP, represented by spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, defended the scale of the operation, citing the vast size of the compound and the resistance encountered from Quiboloy’s supporters. Fajardo emphasized that the action was not targeting a religious group but fulfilling a court mandate.

Broader Implications

This incident has raised significant questions about the balance between law enforcement and civil liberties in the Philippines. The use of substantial police force against a religious organization, even in the pursuit of serious criminal charges, has sparked debate about potential overreach and the protection of constitutional rights.

The political dimension adds another layer of complexity. With Vice President Duterte distancing herself from the Marcos administration over this issue, the raid may have far-reaching consequences for political alliances and future elections.

As the standoff continues, the eyes of the nation remain fixed on the KOJC compound in Davao. The outcome of this high-stakes operation could have profound implications for religious freedom, law enforcement practices, and the political landscape of the Philippines.

The saga of Apollo Quiboloy and the Kingdom of Jesus Christ is far from over. As police continue their search and legal battles loom, the country watches and waits to see how this dramatic chapter in Philippine history will unfold.

The US Deep State Connection

U.S. authorities have been moving heaven and hell to get rid of President Rodrigo Duterte during his term. The same uniparty is now trying its best to exploit the Marcos family to eliminate the Dutertes, ensuring no one can stop them from using the Philippines as a launching pad for their planned war against China.

Eliminating Quiboloy from the equation through false FBI cases is seen as a way to decapitate the Dutertes, or so they think. However, the 20-strong team of lawyers defending Quiboloy has succeeded in pushing the U.S. court to hear these cases now, prompting the brutal attack on Quiboloy’s peaceful organization.

Exhausted police personnel continue to stand in obedience to their officials who are beholden to the incumbent president of the Philippines. They know they have collectively committed an illegal act in raiding the KOJC compound, which is not covered in the warrant of arrest issued by the court.
