Aside from conducting several nuclear drills in major cities all over the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin commits to increasing the level of the Russian military support when necessary, to deter and suppress the purported Plan B of the United States, in its escalation of the Syrian invasion by proxy, amidst the collapse of diplomacy, as if there was a real one to begin with, between the two superpowers.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian media reported that the country’s defense ministry has devised a preemptive plan to be implemented if the US withdraws from talks with Moscow on Syria and opts for its Plan B.
The Izvestia newspaper quoted a high-ranking military source as saying that the plan includes military and political measures. The source didn’t reveal the details of the Russian plan.
Also, Franz Klintsevich, the deputy head of the Unity group in the State Duma, revealed that “if needed, we can highly increase our military support for the Syrian armed forces”.
Earlier this week, Izvestia had also reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense has transferred additional Su-24 and Su-34 tactical bombers to Khmeimim, its airbase in Syria.
It quoted a source as saying that the Su-25 attack bombers will also be deployed in response to the US announcement that it will turn to ‘Plan B’ in Syria. The US plans to increase the number of combat missions to Syria, transfer Special Forces to the region and start new arms deliveries to the so-called moderate opposition.
“If necessary, Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) will have to strengthen its command within the next 2-3 days. The Su-25 attack bombers have been designated for transfer to Khmeimim Air Base, the troops have already been selected and are prepared for deployment; the crews are on standby, waiting for the command,” Izvestia’s source said.
Also, Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that a battery of Russian S-300 air defense missile launchers has been transported to Syria. Its sole purpose is to defend a Russian naval base and warships, the ministry added.
The information about the S-300’s deployment was confirmed by ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov.
“Indeed, the Syrian Arab Republic received an S-300 anti-aircraft missile system. This system is designed to ensure the safety of the naval base in [Syrian city of] Tartus and ships located in the coastal area [in Syria]…” he told the media.
Konashenkov said it is unclear why the deployment of the missile system has created such a fuss in the West.
“The S-300 is a purely defensive system and poses no threat,” he said.
He recalled that before the deployment of S-300, Russia had delivered Fort air defense missile systems to Syria.

Moscow delivers S-300 missile system to Syria for defense of Russian naval base
A battery of Russian S-300 air defense missile launchers has been transported to Syria, Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The statement comes after a report by Fox news that a Russian S-300 was deployed to Syria. The media cited three US officials who claimed that Moscow “continues to ramp up its military operations in Syria.”
In November 2015, Moscow deployed its newest S-400 air defense missile system to Khmeimim in Syria as part of a security boost following the downing of a Russian jet by Turkey near the border with that country. At the time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the S-400 systems are not targeting Russia’s partners, “with whom we fight terrorists in Syria together.”
The S-400 is the most advanced anti-aircraft defense system in Russia.

2 Russian ships take cruise missiles to Mediterranean for Syrian anti-terror op
Two Russian vessels will join up with Russia’s permanent naval fleet in the Mediterranean Sea, where they will assist in the military operation against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Syria.
“It is planned that the Serpukhov and the Zeleny Dol will go to the Mediterranean as part of a planned rotation that will join up with the permanent naval task force,” Russian Navy representative Nikolay Voskresensky told journalists.
The two guided missile fast attack craft left from the port of Sevastopol on October 4 and are currently sailing through the Black Sea in order to join up with the Russian fleet.
The Serpukhov and the Zeleny Dol already participated in Russia’s Syria operation in the Mediterranean in the middle of August, when they fired three Kalibr cruise missiles at Al-Nusra Front terrorists before returning to Crimea in September.
The US Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) is wary of the Kalibr missile, which “is profoundly changing its ability to deter, threaten or destroy adversary targets,” the report published in December said.
The weapon saw its first combat use in October 2015, when a salvo of missiles launched from four small Russian warships in the Caspian Sea hit targets in Syria. In December, the Russian Navy used the same long-range, low-flying cruise missiles to strike more terrorist targets in Syria from a submarine in the Mediterranean Sea.
In September, the Russian Navy announced that the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier would be joining up with the country’s naval group operating in the eastern Mediterranean as well.
“Currently, the Russian naval group in the eastern Mediterranean includes at least six warships and three or four support vessels from all fleets. To increase the combat capabilities of the group, [we] plan to include the cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov into its ranks,” Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said at the time.
The aircraft carrier is expected to reach its intended destination by the middle of October and will spend between four and five months in the region.
